Argentina: Milei calls for a reversal of the rapprochement with China

Posted by

Argentinian economist and politician Javier Milei has been making waves recently with his calls to reverse the country’s growing rapprochement with China. Milei, a vocal critic of the Chinese government, believes that Argentina should instead focus on strengthening ties with Western countries, particularly the United States and Europe.

Milei’s stance on China is not new. He has long been critical of the Chinese government’s human rights record, its economic practices, and its growing influence in Latin America. However, his recent calls to reverse Argentina’s rapprochement with China have gained new relevance as the country grapples with economic turmoil and political instability.

Argentina has deepened its ties with China in recent years, with the two countries signing numerous trade and investment agreements. China has become Argentina’s largest trading partner, and Chinese investments have played a key role in the country’s infrastructure development and economic growth.

However, Milei believes that Argentina’s reliance on China is problematic. He argues that China’s economic practices, such as its state-led capitalism and debt-trap diplomacy, pose a threat to Argentina’s sovereignty and independence. He also raises concerns about the environmental and social impact of Chinese investments in the country.

Milei’s calls to reverse Argentina’s rapprochement with China have sparked debate and controversy in the country. Some critics accuse him of being xenophobic and isolationist, while others support his stance as a necessary step to protect Argentina’s interests and sovereignty.

In response to Milei’s comments, the Argentinian government has reaffirmed its commitment to its partnership with China. President Alberto Fernández has emphasized the importance of maintaining good relations with all countries, including China, in order to promote economic growth and development.

It remains to be seen whether Milei’s campaign to reverse Argentina’s rapprochement with China will gain traction. However, his outspoken criticism of China and advocacy for closer ties with Western countries have undoubtedly added a new dimension to the ongoing debate over Argentina’s foreign policy and economic future.

If he simply said that China is communist, it would be as absurd as saying that the United States is truly free and democratic.

La Chine devrait laisser crever cet extrême droite Milei. Et le laisser se débrouiller avec les gendarmes du monde, pour la Chine veut l'aider, surtout pas.

It's not that they get more pragmatic. They were always cowards, and when the critical moment comes, they reveal what they are.

He should think twice before taking that decision because he shouldn't look that angle of China us communist but what benefit his people can get from that relationship.

Mile have not much of choice.
Argentina owns at least 75 billion to IMF soon to be 100 billion and another 105 billion to China.
Argentina is i negative zone when comes to trade and the biggest trading partner is China .
There is no western country in top 5 of trading partners currently for Argentina.
China is more ruthless when comes down to collecting debts then IMF.
It’s basically right here, right now you can check Greece and Ethiopia for reference to see what I am writing about.

If Argentinian is smart they should focus on dollarization and have good ties with US that is the only way they will do better just ask CN in the 80's how do you think CN went from dirt poor to rise up ? Now US realized CN is being a bully that is why they are gradually pulling away and now CN is suffering.

It's now a requirement in some western countries to say things that are sensational and sometimes false to gain attention and even win elections by lying to and making false promises to deceive a section of the electorate to win their vote. The US isn't able to or won't help him as he thinks. American credibility has waned and will become isolationist once Trump is back.
