Angular Web Component Standalone – Single JavaScript File – Step By Step
Creating a standalone Angular web component that can be easily integrated into any web application is a powerful way to build reusable UI components. In this tutorial, we will go through the step-by-step process of creating an Angular web component in a single JavaScript file.
Step 1: Set up your development environment
First, make sure you have Node.js and npm installed on your machine. You will also need to have Angular CLI installed globally. You can install Angular CLI by running the following command in your terminal:
npm install -g @angular/cli
Step 2: Create a new Angular project
Next, create a new Angular project using the Angular CLI. Run the following command in your terminal:
ng new my-web-component
Step 3: Create the web component
Now that you have a new Angular project, you can create the web component. First, create a new Angular component using the Angular CLI. Run the following command in your terminal:
ng generate component my-component
This will create a new component called my-component in the src/app directory of your Angular project.
Step 4: Write the web component code
Next, open the my-component.component.ts file in the src/app directory and write the code for your web component. Below is an example of a simple web component that displays a hello message:
import { Component, ViewEncapsulation } from '@angular/core';
@Component({
selector: 'my-web-component',
template: `
Hello from my web component!
`,
styles: [`
div {
background-color: #f2f2f2;
padding: 20px;
}
`],
encapsulation: ViewEncapsulation.ShadowDom
})
export class MyWebComponentComponent {}
Step 5: Build the web component
After writing the code for your web component, build the project using the Angular CLI. Run the following command in your terminal:
ng build --prod --output-hashing none
This will build the project and generate a single JavaScript file for your web component in the dist directory of your Angular project.
Step 6: Use the web component in a standalone HTML file
Finally, you can use the web component in a standalone HTML file by including the single JavaScript file that was generated in the previous step. Below is an example of how to use the web component in an HTML file:
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<title>My Web Component</title>
<script src="path-to-your-angular-project/dist/main.js"></script>
</head>
<body>
<my-web-component></my-web-component>
</body>
</html>
And that’s it! You have now created a standalone Angular web component in a single JavaScript file. This web component can be easily integrated into any web application by including the single JavaScript file in the HTML file.
Thank you so much for posting such a very informative video. much appreciated
What version of angular are you using? Thanks!
