Game Development On Discord

Discord, the popular communication platform for gamers, has become not only a place to chat and connect with friends, but also a hub for game developers to collaborate and work on projects together. With its easy-to-use interface, voice channels, and file sharing capabilities, Discord provides a seamless experience for game development teams to communicate and share ideas.

One of the key features that makes Discord a great platform for game development is its ability to create dedicated servers for specific projects. This allows developers to have a central place to discuss ideas, share progress updates, and collaborate on coding and design tasks. With channels for text and voice communication, teams can easily brainstorm ideas, provide feedback, and troubleshoot issues in real-time.

Another advantage of using Discord for game development is its integration with popular development tools such as GitHub, Trello, and Unity. Developers can easily link their accounts and receive notifications for code changes, task updates, and build progress. This streamlines the development process and ensures that everyone on the team is on the same page.

Additionally, Discord offers a wide range of bots and plugins that can enhance the game development experience. From music bots for background ambiance to moderation bots for keeping the server organized, developers can customize their server to meet their specific needs. There are even bots that can help with code management, project tracking, and playtesting.

Overall, game development on Discord offers a unique and collaborative environment for developers to work together and bring their ideas to life. With its versatile features, integration with popular tools, and customizable options, Discord provides a powerful platform for game development teams to create amazing games and grow their skills.

kinda reminds me of the times where Discord launched their own game store/library, in response to the Epic Games Store, before closing it not long after

html5 is scary bc anything made with it only wants to work with other html5 apps, imagine a future where we can only make things in html5

I think this have the potential to create a roll20 killer. If you can save campaigns locally or in the cloud of course, and edit as the DM alone

This might be a huge win for discord. Game devs don't have enough time to do things outside of working. Web devs however work 9 – 5 and then play video games all night and wish they could build games. This could be a product that can allow them to bridge the gap.

Looks like a kongregate website like concept but instead of building it on website and for free with minor pay options to a desktop application approach.

I fear it will be the same as for when they added apps to the facebook platform back then. The market will be flooded with useless mini games, I suppose.
Or else the whole thing won't be accepted at all. Thus it will either over- or underperform, there won't be an inbetween. Both is bad, the one is annoying, the other one a bad decision by Discord.

I think they should finally keep the Discord client as is. They add more and more features that nobody ever asked for. It once was a perfect community/chat software, now it develops into something that I honestly don't want. Why can't they just stop going further and further…?

This is actually super cool. Now I have, hopefully, a quick and easy way to setup my own multilayer game and then play it with friends

We just soft launched our first game Goober Dash on discord. We made Goober Dash in Godot, and it has custom netcode for multiplayer. Suprised you didnt see it in your activity launcher. Arent you in Canada?

This is really interesting. This can be the needed start I needed to start learning web game development. Would be good if they could integrate godot into it though.
