Posted by

In this tutorial, we will be looking at how to play the theme song from the movie “Django Unchained,” titled “Lo Chiamavano King” (His Name was King) by Luis Bacalov. The song is known for its captivating melody and haunting vocals, and in this tutorial, we will guide you through learning how to play it on the guitar.

To begin, you will need to tune your guitar to standard tuning, which is EADGBE. The song is in the key of D minor, so make sure to keep this in mind as you play.

The main riff of the song is played on the A string, starting on the 5th fret and then moving down to the 3rd fret. The riff is repeated throughout the song and sets the tone for the rest of the melody.

Once you have mastered the main riff, you can move on to playing the chords that accompany the vocals. The chords used in the song are Dm, C, Gm, and A. These chords are fairly simple to play and create a lush harmony that complements the melody of the song.

As you play through the song, pay attention to the dynamics and phrasing of the melody. The song has a slow and melancholic feel, so make sure to convey this in your playing by using light strumming and gentle fingerpicking techniques.

To play the vocal melody on the guitar, you can use a combination of picking and sliding techniques to recreate the haunting sound of the original recording. Listen to the song carefully and try to mimic the vocal line as closely as possible.

Overall, playing “Lo Chiamavano King” on the guitar is a rewarding experience that allows you to dive deep into the emotion and atmosphere of the song. Take your time to practice and perfect your playing, and soon you will be able to captivate your audience with this beautiful piece of music.

We hope this tutorial has been helpful in guiding you through learning how to play the theme song from “Django Unchained” on the guitar. Enjoy exploring this iconic song and have fun playing it for yourself and others to enjoy.

You never learn King's backstory in the movie, but if you listen to his theme, it tells you. He was probably just your average everyday dentist, but as soon as someone shot his brother, he went on a quest for revenge; the killer probably had a bounty on him, and then he was all like, "oh! good idea!" Imagine what kind of badass adventures he had in the five years before he met Django. You could make an entire TV show or comic book about it.
