Plot Summary:
The film begins with Django, a slave who is being transported in a chain gang when he is approached by Dr. King Shultz, a German-born bounty hunter. Shultz offers to buy Django’s freedom in exchange for his help in tracking down three targets. Django proves to be a natural at bounty hunting and eventually becomes Shultz’s partner.
As Django and Shultz track down their targets, Django reveals that he is searching for his wife, Broomhilda, who was sold to a brutal plantation owner named Calvin Candie. The two men devise a plan to infiltrate Candie’s plantation by posing as buyers interested in purchasing a fighter slave. However, their plan is put in jeopardy when Candie’s head house slave, Stephen, suspects their true intentions.
The tension comes to a head when Candie realizes that Django and Shultz are not who they claim to be. In a tense standoff, Shultz is killed, and Django is captured and tortured. However, Django manages to escape and exacts his revenge on Candie and his men, rescuing Broomhilda in the process.
