Finland to shut down all border crossings with Russia due to increased influx of migrants

Posted by

In a surprising move, Finland has announced its decision to close all borders with Russia after a surge in migrants entering the country. The decision comes as a response to the increased number of asylum seekers fleeing from Russia, particularly from war-torn regions like Chechnya and Ukraine.

The Finnish government has cited security concerns and the strain on its resources as the main reasons for the closure. With the influx of migrants, the country has struggled to provide adequate support and accommodation for those seeking asylum. Closing the borders is seen as a necessary step to manage the situation and prevent it from escalating further.

This move has sparked a debate among politicians, with some applauding the government for taking a decisive action to address the migrant crisis, while others have criticized the decision, arguing that it goes against Finland’s commitment to human rights and international obligations.

Finland has a long history of offering a safe haven for refugees, and many fear that the closure of the borders will leave vulnerable people stranded without access to protection and support. The country has a strong tradition of welcoming those in need, and the decision to close the borders is seen as a departure from this stance.

The situation has also raised concerns about the relationship between Finland and Russia. The two countries share a 1,340-kilometer (830-mile) border, and the closure will undoubtedly have an impact on trade and tourism between the two nations. It remains to be seen how this decision will affect the diplomatic ties between Finland and Russia.

While the closure of the borders may help alleviate the immediate pressure that Finland is facing, it is clear that a long-term solution is needed to address the root causes of the migrant surge. This will require cooperation with other European countries and a comprehensive approach to addressing the challenges faced by those fleeing their homes.

For now, Finland’s decision to close the borders with Russia reflects the country’s struggle to manage the influx of asylum seekers. It is a complex issue that requires careful consideration and a compassionate response to ensure the safety and well-being of those seeking a new life in Finland.

Good move Finland. Russia spreads only pain, suffering and corruption through trade…Weaponizing illegal immigration is just cherry on top in their moral bankruptcy.

When people ignore that these migrants are suffering, you have to wonder about Finland being so nieve to think that this would not happen. Russia is employing the asymmetrical response that Putin mentioned would take place if sanctions were introduced against Russia. This was a favourite retaliation of the Soviet Union during the sanctions placed on them. I would shed tears for the Finns, but it would just be tears of laughter.

If you're going to be in NATO, you need to demonstrate that you support NATO's fundamental ideological values like the active promotion of race mixing, multiculturalism, transvestism, etc. If you aren't willing to accept all of this cultural enrichment, then you don't belong in liberal, open minded and multicultural NATO.

As a Finn, we welcome refugees. This is not acceptable. These people shouldn't be left to die at border checkpoints. It is cruel. We are a NATO country now. We don't need to worry about war. We have the means to process these people are share them throughout Europe. We have a massive labor shortage now in Europe. It's ok.
