Want to make a chat app? Get Real-time With WebSockets & Socket.io!

If you’re looking to create a chat application that provides real-time communication between users, then WebSockets and Socket.io are the perfect tools for the job. These technologies allow for bidirectional communication between a client and server, enabling instant updates and messages without the need for constant polling or page refreshes.

What are WebSockets?

WebSockets are a communication protocol that provides full-duplex communication channels over a single TCP connection. This allows for real-time, low-latency communication between a client and server, making it ideal for applications like chat apps, online gaming, and live updates.

Why use Socket.io?

Socket.io is a JavaScript library that enables real-time, bidirectional and event-based communication between a client and server. It builds on top of the WebSocket protocol and provides additional features such as fallbacks for older browsers, multiplexing, and rooms for grouping users.

Getting started with WebSockets & Socket.io

To get started with WebSockets and Socket.io, you’ll need to install the Socket.io library on your server and client-side code. You can find detailed installation instructions on the Socket.io website.

Once you have Socket.io set up, you can begin implementing real-time features in your chat application. Use Socket.io to emit events from the client to the server and vice versa, allowing for instant messaging and updates between users.

Conclusion

By utilizing WebSockets and Socket.io, you can create a powerful and real-time chat application that provides seamless communication between users. With features like instant messaging, group chat, and live updates, your chat app will be both engaging and user-friendly. So why wait? Thank you very much for the video, I would just like to mention that there is a constant hum during the explanation part on the board, it would be great if for the next one you would pass a filter to the audio to eliminate hums
