A Porsche owner in Singapore has declined a payout from a delivery man after a crash in the city-state’s east, saying the man’s hand-to-mouth existence outweighed the costs of the damage.
The incident happened at around 9 a.m. on Monday when Ms. Ang, who declined to give her full name, was driving her Porsche Boxster along Tanah Merah Coast Road. The 35-year-old had stopped at a traffic light when a delivery rider accidentally crashed into the back of her car.
Ms. Ang, who works in the financial sector, got out of her luxury sports car to assess the situation and saw that the delivery man was visibly shaken and seemed to be struggling to make ends meet. She realized that the cost of repairs for her car, estimated at around $1,000, was relatively inconsequential in comparison to the man’s circumstances.
In a show of compassion and understanding, she decided to turn down the offer of a payout from the delivery man, instead choosing to offer him some financial assistance and understanding for his situation.
“It was a small accident, the car can be fixed, but what I saw in his eyes was that he was very much in need. I felt that he was really struggling,” Ms. Ang said in an interview with The Straits Times.
The act of kindness has garnered widespread praise on social media, with many commending Ms. Ang for her empathy and understanding. It serves as a timely reminder of the human element in situations that often become bogged down in insurance claims, liabilities, and financial disputes.
In a world where our possessions often hold significant value to us, it’s refreshing to see the empathetic and compassionate response of a Porsche owner, recognizing the humanity behind a simple accident.
It’s a reminder that in moments of difficulty and strife, we can choose to show kindness and understanding, even when it may seem easier to focus on material possessions.
Ms. Ang’s act of declining the payout from the delivery man is a powerful example of how a small act of kindness can have a profound impact on someone’s life. It’s a lesson in empathy and understanding that transcends financial transactions and material possessions. And it’s a reminder to all of us that there are more important things in life than the value of our cars.

My faith in humanity is restored 😊
What was he driving? Because he looks so hurt and the damage to the Porshe is not significant in its looks, though obviously costly as a luxury vehicle.
Rich people with humility and generosity is quite rare these days. It's incredibly heartwarming to see when there is one.
If this happens in America. It's the delivery man's bank account squeezed till gone
…similar incident happened in Malaysia few months ago..
Awww the owner is so nice. Look at this person showing Christ through her kindness
Both sriver and the delivery guy deserve the utmost respect from the citizens pf the world. The driver was really had a huge concern on the injury of the delivery guy and perhaps she can pay for the scratches to be fixed, and the delivery guy, knowing he was on the wrong, taking responsibility by offering to pay. I really salute both
