Russian assaults force residents of Ukraine’s Avdiivka to evacuate • FRANCE 24 English

Posted by

The city of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine has been a key battleground in the ongoing conflict between Ukrainian forces and Russian-backed separatists. In recent weeks, the city has been rocked by intense fighting, leading to a mass exodus of its residents.

Residents of Avdiivka have been fleeing their homes in droves as the city has endured heavy shelling and gunfire from the Russian-backed forces. The ongoing assaults have left many parts of the city in ruins, with reports of civilian casualties and widespread destruction.

According to local officials, more than half of the population of Avdiivka has already left the city, seeking refuge in nearby towns and cities. The exodus has left the once bustling city eerily empty, with deserted streets and abandoned homes becoming a common sight.

The Russian assaults on Avdiivka come amid a surge in violence in the region, leading to growing concerns among the international community. The Ukrainian government has accused Russia of escalating the conflict and violating the ceasefire agreement that was brokered in 2015.

The European Union and the United States have also voiced their condemnation of the Russian aggression in Avdiivka, calling for an immediate end to the hostilities and a return to the negotiating table. The US State Department issued a statement expressing deep concern over the deteriorating situation in eastern Ukraine and urging all parties to respect the ceasefire agreement.

The violence in Avdiivka has not only caused a humanitarian crisis, but it has also had a significant impact on the local economy. Many businesses in the city have been forced to shut down, and the remaining residents are facing shortages of food, water, and other essential supplies.

Despite the grim situation in Avdiivka, Ukrainian forces have vowed to defend the city and push back the Russian-backed separatists. The Ukrainian military has launched counter-offensives to regain control of the city, but the situation remains volatile and uncertain.

As the conflict in eastern Ukraine shows no signs of abating, the plight of the residents of Avdiivka serves as a stark reminder of the human cost of war. The international community must continue to exert pressure on Russia and the separatists to end the violence and seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Only with a concerted effort by all parties involved can the people of Avdiivka and the wider region hope for a brighter and more secure future.

Soon to be Russia new territory whether anyone likes it or not, Russia is taking back all their territories given to Ukr during Soviet union and the more the west suppy Ukr to fight the more they lose more territory and their men. So stop the war and go back to negotiating table because you will never win Russia no matter all the hype from West that keep pushing them to unwinnable mission rather sending them to their early grave or Ukr hyped up by their master west and feel them with ego and they trying to impress them by the time they realize there will be no Ukrainian Left and then Russia will take everything and they will be gone forever.

The Russians have taken the industrial area in the south and are advancing. Ukrainian forces know if they lose the coke plant in the north they will be cut off so they are taking heavy casualties for that and several Ukrainian battalions are facing collapse

We need to an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine and peace talks to end this madness. There is one thing I can guarantee you about the Russian captives, the Ukrainian soldiers and the 1350 people still living in Avdiivka: they are all the poorest of the poor. The Rich Russians and Ukrainians alike are relaxing a thousand miles from the front-line. They will never send their own children to die in places like Avdiivka. They send the poor to kill themselves while other poor people like the 1350 Ukrainians are caught in the crossfire. Its disgusting!

This city is heavily fortified by the AFU for the past 8 years…and it is from this city that the AFU have indiscriminately shelled the civilians in Donetsk. It is Ukraine's last stronghold and Russian forces saved it for last; have now surrounded it and the DPR forces will not allow any AFU soldiers to leave Avdivka alive.
