Steps for Properly Cleaning a Hydro Flask Straw Lid: Please Watch Video Tutorial in Description Before Removing Spout

Posted by

Hydro Flasks are known for their durable and high-quality construction, making them a popular choice for keeping drinks cold or hot for extended periods of time. One of the key features of Hydro Flask water bottles is the straw lid, which allows for easy sipping without having to unscrew the entire lid. However, over time, the straw lid can become dirty and develop an unpleasant odor if not cleaned regularly.

Cleaning your Hydro Flask straw lid is essential to ensure that your drinks stay fresh and free from bacteria. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to properly clean your Hydro Flask straw lid to keep it looking and functioning like new.

Before we begin, please make sure to watch the video linked in the description before detaching the spout. This video will provide you with visual instructions on how to properly detach the spout from the straw lid without causing damage.

Here are the steps to clean your Hydro Flask straw lid:

1. Detach the spout: Before cleaning your straw lid, it is important to detach the spout from the lid. As mentioned earlier, please watch the video linked in the description to properly detach the spout without causing any damage.

2. Wash the spout: Fill a sink or basin with warm, soapy water and submerge the spout in the water. Use a soft sponge or brush to scrub the spout inside and out, making sure to reach all crevices and corners. Rinse the spout thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue.

3. Clean the straw: The straw of the Hydro Flask lid can accumulate dirt and residue over time. To clean the straw, use a cleaning brush designed for straw cleaning. Run the cleaning brush through the straw several times to dislodge any trapped debris. Rinse the straw thoroughly with clean water.

4. Wash the lid: Once the spout and straw are cleaned, it is time to wash the lid itself. Fill the sink or basin with warm, soapy water and submerge the lid in the water. Use a sponge or brush to wash the lid thoroughly, paying special attention to the rubber seal and any grooves where dirt can accumulate. Rinse the lid with clean water to remove any soap residue.

5. Dry and reassemble: After cleaning all components of the Hydro Flask straw lid, allow them to air dry completely before reassembling the lid. Once dry, reattach the spout to the lid carefully, making sure it is securely in place.

6. Optional deep cleaning: If your Hydro Flask straw lid is heavily soiled or has developed a persistent odor, you may want to consider giving it a deep clean. To do this, soak the straw lid in a mixture of warm water and white vinegar for a few hours. After soaking, scrub the lid, spout, and straw as instructed earlier before rinsing thoroughly with clean water.

By following these steps, you can keep your Hydro Flask straw lid clean and fresh, ensuring that your drinks remain enjoyable every time you use it. Regular cleaning of your Hydro Flask straw lid will help maintain its functionality and prolong its lifespan. Remember to watch the instructional video linked in the description before detaching the spout to avoid damaging the lid.

I have the OG spout. After tearing it apart and cleaning it and putting it back together the seal is no good and now I end up sucking more air than water.

Thank you for this tutorial, I didn't know you can pop out the spout and was going to just toss my hydro flash if mold continued to grow in areas where I couldn't clean. Now I can feel less icky about drinking from my hydroflask!

This saved me from throwing my lid out! Also a cocktail stirring spoon (real thin metal spoon) pops the plastic ring on the new lid off very well!

Be very careful w/the standard lid, pushing the spout away from the top did free it, but it also damaged the tab that keeps it in place. It's still working for now, but it will probably fall out in the future.

Well, I tried this method for my OG lid and one of the side bits on the spout broke off. No wonder I was met with some resistance trying to pop it off even though I did it exactly as in the video. It was a bit loose when I put it back and caused leaks, which never happened before, so I took it off again and I'm currently relying on super glue to salvage it. Is this a common a risk?

Still grateful for the video, it desperately needed a deep clean, it was nasty under there. Just wondering if there is a safer method to do it next time.

I use tweezers to get the O-ring out of water bottles. Also, this video has convinced me to get a hydro flask even though it is a pricy bottle. I found out my Contigo bottle had mold inside the lid and I cannot clean it properly bc you have to have a special screwdriver to unscrew it. It’s not advertised to unscrew it and clean it that way. So I had no idea. This seems like you can clean all the parts and not get sick from mold you didn’t know about. Ty for making this video!

This is the way I popped off the mouth piece and it became way more loose than originally
