The Fate of Russia’s Elite ‘Black Berets’ in Ukraine – A BBC World Service Documentary

Posted by

The Black Berets, once known as Russia’s elite special forces unit, have been at the center of controversy in recent years due to their involvement in the conflict in Ukraine. The unit, which was originally formed as part of the Russian Interior Ministry, has been accused of carrying out covert operations in Ukraine in support of Russian separatists.

The Black Berets’ role in the conflict in Ukraine has raised serious concerns about Russia’s involvement in the crisis and has further escalated tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The unit’s activities have also brought into question the extent to which Russian military and security forces are operating outside of their borders, in violation of international law.

The Black Berets’ involvement in the conflict in Ukraine has also led to questions about their role in other conflicts and potential human rights abuses. There have been reports of the unit carrying out extrajudicial killings and other forms of violence against civilians in Ukraine, raising serious concerns about their conduct and accountability.

In response to these allegations, the Black Berets have faced international scrutiny and condemnation. Several European countries and the United States have imposed sanctions on members of the unit, and there have been calls for Russia to be held accountable for their actions in Ukraine.

Despite these challenges, the Black Berets continue to operate in Ukraine and other conflict zones, raising concerns about the potential for further destabilization in the region. The unit’s actions have also led to fears of a potential escalation of the conflict and a further deterioration of relations between Russia and the West.

The future of the Black Berets remains uncertain, as the unit continues to face international condemnation and scrutiny. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the unit’s role in the crisis have raised serious questions about Russia’s foreign policy and its commitment to international law and human rights.

As the conflict in Ukraine continues to unfold, the actions of the Black Berets will continue to be closely monitored by the international community. The unit’s involvement in the crisis has brought to light the potential for further escalation of the conflict and the need for greater international oversight of Russia’s military and security activities in the region. The Black Berets’ actions in Ukraine have raised serious concerns about the conduct of Russian forces and the impact of their involvement on the stability and security of the region.

The 155 Black Berets were the exception. They left a papertrail with soldiers' names and families that cared.

Very moving descriptions and narrative of a senseless war and horrific and disastrous Ministry of Defense responses to the directives from above. I know many inside Russia seek out the BBC World Service for some honest reporting. Hopefully this reaches the widest possible audience in Russia and prompt some to act to stop the war.

They call us meat. Well, that sucks. But you chumps could have always fragged your officers and then surrendered. At least you'd still be alive.

Ruskie, when will you rise up against a dictator who throws away your young men, a whole generation of young men.

Young lives being wasted day by day for a mere dictator's fantasy. Putin does not care one whit at all about those young boys being sent as cannon fodder while he's comfortably dinng and wining the inept commanders and calling the fallen "heroes".

I have no sympathies for those "Ruzzian World" soldiers. I only feel for those who were sent there against their will, by threatening them and their families.

This is how Ukraine wins the war. BBC should continue to do such good reports but from Ukrainian side how they are taking apart so claimed top 2nd world's army. Glory to Ukrainian precision work. No pity to brainwashed Russian elite. They did their choice to not uprise against the tyran, who tells there is no Ukraine and they are defending Russian land! Bad choices cost lives. One thing that cannot be enough repeated and broadcasted to these Russian so they understand: a very wide known adverb in Russian says: "come with the sword and you will die by the sword" – in Russian "«Кто с мечом к нам придёт, от меча и погибнет!»…

Trembling voices with sad music in background are crying about poor things, thrown on machine guns without proper reconnaissance, equipment etc… Do you prefer them well equipped and armed? Disgusting. Can't believe this comes from Britain…

The Russian People choose this war so long as they consent their kin to be sacrificed and turned into Ukrainian soil for the sake of Putin's ambition
