The Power of God Removed from the Dwarf in the Flask (Father) in Full Metal Alchemist

Posted by

Full Metal Alchemist is an iconic anime and manga series that follows the adventures of two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, as they search for the Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore their bodies after a failed alchemical experiment. One of the most enigmatic and intriguing characters in the series is popularly known as “Father” or “The Dwarf in the Flask”, who is the primary antagonist of the story.

Father is a mysterious being who was created by the alchemist Van Hohenheim in a flask using a mixture of alchemy and a slave’s blood. He was given godly power by the Truth in exchange for removing his capacity for empathy and emotions. Father’s ultimate goal is to obtain the power of godhood by creating the Philosopher’s Stone, which he believes will allow him to ascend to the level of a higher being.

In order to remove Father’s godly power, one must first understand the complex nature of his existence and the source of his abilities. Father’s power comes from the Philosopher’s Stone, which he created from the souls of thousands of people in Amestris. This stone acts as a conduit for his alchemical abilities and grants him near-immortality and the power to manipulate matter at will.

To remove Father’s godly power, one must first weaken the Philosopher’s Stone that serves as the source of his abilities. This can be achieved through various methods, such as damaging the stone physically, disrupting its energy flow, or using alchemical techniques to drain its power. One effective method is to engage Father in a battle and slowly wear down the stone’s energy reserves until it becomes vulnerable to attack.

Once the Philosopher’s Stone is weakened, the next step is to sever the connection between Father and the stone, effectively cutting off his source of power. This can be done through a combination of alchemical transmutations, physical attacks, or by exploiting weaknesses in Father’s defenses. By breaking the link between Father and the Philosopher’s Stone, one can strip him of his godly abilities and render him mortal once again.

It is important to note that removing Father’s godly power is a challenging and dangerous task, as he is a formidable opponent with immense alchemical knowledge and combat skills. One must be prepared to face his wrath and anticipate his every move in order to succeed in this endeavor. It is advisable to seek assistance from other skilled alchemists or combatants to increase the chances of success and ensure the safety of those involved.

In conclusion, removing Father’s godly power is a daunting task that requires careful planning, skillful execution, and unwavering determination. By understanding the nature of his abilities, weakening the Philosopher’s Stone, and severing the connection between Father and his power source, one can strip him of his godhood and bring an end to his tyrannical reign. It is a task that only the bravest and most skilled individuals can accomplish, but the rewards of defeating Father and restoring balance to the world are well worth the effort.

I just realized that the entire nation of Amestris simultaneously pooped all its citizens pants, because, even them being dead that briefly, all their bowels would've voided. It would've been known as the "Soiled Day" forever thereafter. 🤣

When I watched this scene as a kid, it blew my mind that he used the eclipse's shadow.

Now that I just experienced the one from a few days ago, it's unimaginable to visualize actually how Hohenheim calculated this.

I didn't even realize how fast eclipses can be. I was amazed how it went from shadows to sunny day. And Hohenheim calculated it down to the second

He figured out Father's Plan and instead of using the country for a circle, and executed his plan using the moon's shadow. How did he even think of this?? When did he mark the first point? Cause if this wasn't his first idea, did he come up with it 2 years in? 5? Exactly how long did he take to set this up?

And of course, there's a theme buried in that somewhere. How Father wanted it all amd decided to carve out a space for himself by making his own circle.

Meanwhile, Hohenheim used what existed naturally. And seemingly, effortlessly, undid a 100+ year plan in 10.

When the realization kicked in that the souls from Hohenheim's Stone were going to sacrifice themselves to restore Amestris's citizens, and the young voice announces "we're going now, Hohenheim!"

That gets me as bad as the baby's first cry.

This moment is so perfect. From the dichotomy between Father (manipulation of others) and Hoenheim (co-operation and teamwork with the souls inside himself), to the silence until the baby starts crying, leading into the last OP playing overtop the scene. It's actually a masterpiece.

I love the parallel between Hohenheim's and Father's transmutation circle. Both are nation-wide circle that affect every souls within it.
But where Father's circle is made of countless deaths, twisted without their knowing and bound by digging a whole around the whole country. It tries to bend and subjugate the natural order of things
Meanwhile Hohenheim is made using the help of all the willing souls inside of him AND the natural order of things. It doesn't try to change nature and the world, it accomodates them. It finds strenght not in trying to go against the world but to take it and channel that energy into a constructive thing.

Father's circle is the blind notion that he must and can dominate the world to grow as a being, Hohenheim is the proof that the world is both stronger than him and that it is part of all things

The fact that a woman is the one to write the best of men in FMA is fantastic.

All characters (especially male) written in FMA have dignity: hohenhiem, Greed, Mustang, hughes Armstrong, kimblee, teacher's husband and even Wrath. All of them, class A men.

Also, Hawkeye, Winry, lady armstrong, lust and the teacher are straight up badass.

I think this shows just how different the Dwarf and Hohenheim's ways of thinking are. The Dwarf is a proud fool that truly believes he should be the one to control everything, instead of accepting the way the world works, he actively tries to morph it into something that serves him. He is completely uncertain of anything but his own ability, so he uses a part of himself (Sloth) to carve a transmutation circle. Hohenheim on the other hand, a man who is humble and understands the beauty arounds him, relies on the way the world currently is to balance fate in his favor. Instead of rejecting the world, he lets it help him, and is all the more powerful for it

jfc the ending shot of the soul re-entering the baby, angled up so we can’t see inside the pram, the suspenseful pause, then the cry to close out the episode and show hope is restored… and I completely forgot it existed because the show offers thousands of brilliant visual ideas. This show is truly just… too good
