What’s new with Web ML in 2023

Web machine learning (Web ML) has been steadily advancing in recent years, and 2023 looks to be an exciting year for the technology. Here are some of the latest developments in Web ML:

Enhanced Performance

One of the main areas of focus for Web ML in 2023 is improving performance. With advancements in hardware and software, web applications are becoming more capable of handling complex machine learning tasks. This means that developers can create more powerful and responsive web-based machine learning models, opening up new possibilities for applications across various industries.

Improved Accessibility

Another important trend in Web ML is the continued effort to make machine learning more accessible to developers. This includes the development of new tools, libraries, and frameworks that simplify the process of implementing and training machine learning models for the web. Additionally, efforts are being made to improve the documentation and resources available to developers, making it easier for them to integrate machine learning into their web applications.

Privacy and Security

As the use of machine learning on the web continues to grow, so too does the importance of ensuring the privacy and security of user data. In 2023, we can expect to see increased focus on developing and implementing best practices for handling sensitive data in web-based machine learning models. This includes new advancements in privacy-preserving techniques and improved tools for securing machine learning pipelines on the web.

Integration with Web Technologies

Finally, Web ML in 2023 will see increased integration with other web technologies. This includes better support for integrating machine learning models into web components such as WebGL and WebAssembly, as well as improved compatibility with popular web frameworks and libraries. This will make it easier for developers to use machine learning in conjunction with other web technologies, opening up new possibilities for creating innovative and interactive web applications.

Overall, 2023 looks to be an exciting year for Web ML, with advancements in performance, accessibility, privacy and security, and integration with other web technologies. As the technology continues to evolve, we can expect to see even more exciting developments in the years to come.

If I read the slide at 9:47 correctly, it looks like a M2 MacBook pro sometimes has better performance than a NVidia GPU when using WebGPU. What were the exact configurations used for these tests though? which NVidia card and how many GPU cores on the M2?
