What motivates Americans to support Ukraine?

Posted by

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has captured the attention and support of many Americans, with a growing number advocating for more assistance to be provided to the Eastern European nation. But what exactly is driving this support from across the Atlantic?

One of the primary reasons for American support for Ukraine is a shared commitment to democracy and human rights. The United States has a long history of supporting countries striving for democratic ideals, and many Americans see Ukraine’s struggle against Russian aggression as a fight for freedom and self-determination. The annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014 and the ongoing conflict in Eastern Ukraine have been viewed by many in the US as clear violations of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. In standing with Ukraine, Americans are standing up for the basic principles of international law and the right of all nations to determine their own future.

Additionally, there is a sense of solidarity among Americans with the Ukrainian people, who have faced significant hardship and suffering as a result of the conflict. The humanitarian crisis in Eastern Ukraine has led to thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions of people, creating a sense of urgency for many in the US to provide support and assistance to those affected by the violence. Fundraising efforts, awareness campaigns, and calls for increased aid have all been common responses from Americans concerned about the situation in Ukraine.

Furthermore, many Americans see Ukraine as a key partner in the broader struggle against Russian aggression and expansionism in Eastern Europe. With Russia’s actions in Ukraine widely seen as a threat to regional stability and the post-Cold War order, supporting Ukraine has become a way for the US to push back against Russian influence and defend the interests of its allies in the region. The US has provided military assistance to Ukraine, including weapons and training, in an effort to bolster Ukraine’s defenses and deter further Russian aggression.

In conclusion, the support for Ukraine among Americans can be attributed to a combination of shared democratic values, a sense of solidarity with the Ukrainian people, and a desire to push back against Russian aggression in Eastern Europe. As the conflict in Ukraine continues, it is likely that this support will only grow stronger, as Americans seek to stand with Ukraine in its fight for freedom and independence.

“Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave, ov’r the land of the free and the home of the brave?” If you are an American and you don’t support aiding Ukraine, you are a coward. If you value your freedom, you must value everyone’s freedom. Russia and China are unapologetic autocracies, and they want to expand. You should take it personally every time someone falls under their control. A full third or more of this country can’t be brave enough to support Ukraine, and we don’t even have to fight and die. Just spend money at US companies to build and ship weapons to Ukraine. Stop cravenly politicizing this, and let this country help people who are free and brave and fighting for their lives against monsters to stay free.

The US should support Ukraine because they share our values, and their monstrous enemy does not.

I support Ukraine and her people because they are my cousins: they want freedom from tyranny, they want liberty, close ties to the west (and not backward facing Russia).
Yes, the USA made a promise to Ukraine and I supported it then, I support it now. Ukraine is a bastion of freedom in a dark east.
One day, soon I hope, Ukraine will stand free, proud and tall amongst other nations of the world. And it will be safe for me to visit and see all the sights, historic and natural, that your beautiful country has.

We, the US, should have kept our word, Clinton gave our word along with the UK and russia. For some reason NOBODY remembers this, doesnt make it less valid, we should have been there when that cockroach put his nose in Crimea, but we weren't. We should have been there in Feb, and we should have armed you to the teeth with whatever the hell you wanted to purge your land. We didnt, we only met you halfway because while Ukraine is a friend, we knew if you were properly armed, you would have brought them to their knees. Even halfway armed, with one hand tied behind your backs, you are still standing. But a fully devastated russia, could start a chain reaction, bringing Vova and his regime crumbling, which could cause chaos in a country of loosely guarded nuclear weapons.
This is what i think is the big picture. The scenario that my government saw and wanted to prevent, while keeping Ukraine in Ukraine. I dont think it's right, but i have to see their point too. As an American, Im sorry, im sorry that we didnt keep our word even though you did. My dog is also sorry, but she proudly wears her "Puck Futin" shirt and a sunflower collar.

The only thing that we have learned that is new is that some Americans who claim to be the biggest 'tough guy patriots' are actually craven cowards who will sell their children into slavery in exchange for 30 pieces of silver and some transient status as a 'leader'.
